Hi there! I’m Jessica and I am a ceramic artist living in Homewood, IL with my husband, two kids, dog, and backyard chickens. I have always been a creative person, from cutting up my own clothes to sew Barbie fashions as a child, getting in trouble for drawing at work, to turning a photography hobby into a wedding photography business for 7 years. Having kids and being burnt out on photography, I was looking for another creative outlet so I signed up for a pottery class at a local art studio. I immediately fell in love with working with clay and started practicing at home learning as much as I could. Later a friend who teaches ceramics at the university level encouraged me to take a class at Governor’s State University. It was there that I was able to refine a lot of my skills, and plan to take more classes in the future.
In true Taurus nature, I love getting my hands dirty and taking this soft earthy material and making it into something beautiful and functional. If you really stop to think about it and look around, ceramics are everywhere and we use them every day. The art of making pottery is both challenging and calming. I love that when I'm working on the wheel, handbuilding, or glazing it can be meditative and I'm not thinking of anything else. I would describe my style as always changing, but I lean towards a mix of natural/neutral, and colorful/playful/patterned.
I still have a lot to learn, but I hope my love of ceramics shows through in my work and it brings me so much joy to share that with other people. Thank you for visiting!
